Introduction: Stroke is a growing health issue in Africa. This study aimed to analyze sociodemographic, anthropometric, dietary, and lifestyle factors in stroke patients at Douala General Hospital.
Methodology: A cross-sectional descriptive and analytical study was conducted from October 1, 2019, to January 15, 2020. Consecutive sampling included 52 confirmed stroke patients aged over 21. Data were collected via structured questionnaires. Statistical significance was set at p < 0.05.
Results: Among 52 patients, 34 had ischemic stroke (65.4%) and 18 hemorrhagic stroke (34.6%). Ischemic stroke was associated with higher waist circumference (p=0.015), frequent consumption of refined oil (p=0.021), chronic stress (p=0.004), and excessive alcohol consumption (p=0.039).
Conclusion: Ischemic stroke patients exhibited a less favorable risk profile. Small sample size limits generalizability. Larger studies are needed.
