Locoregional anesthesia in the elderly at the Region No 1 Military Hospital of Yaounde

Introduction: The aim of our study was to describe the clinical aspects of elderly patients operated on under locoregional anaesthesia at the region no1 military hospital of Yaounde.
Material and Method: This was a cross-sectional, descriptive and retrospective study of patients operated on from January 1, 2022 to February 28, 2024 at the region no1 military hospital of Yaounde. Variables were age, sex, anesthetic risk, technique of locoregional anesthesia performed, complications found. Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 25.0 statistical software.
Results: One hundred and twenty-one patients were enrolled. The mean age was 71.69 years. The sex ratio was 2.62. Arterial hypertension (44.6%) and diabetes (18.2%) were the most common comorbidities. ASA classes 2 and 3 were the most frequent. Spinal anesthesia (83.5%) was the main technique used.
Conclusion: The practice of locoregional anesthesia in the elderly is frequent. The cardiovascular complications are more observed.
