Abstract

Tetanus is an acute disease caused by a toxin produced by Clostridium tetanii, the consequences of which can be fatal. It can rarely complicate circumcision. We describe a case of tetanus in a 5-year-old child that occurred after circumcision. The child had
received his first doses of anti-tetanus vaccine, but no booster dose. The outcome of the treatment was favourable, and the child was discharged without sequelae after 26 days in hospital. This case highlights the need to reinforce prophylactic measures against
tetanus through aseptic care and vaccination.
