The audiometric profile of the patients of ENT unit of The Ebolowa Regional Hospital Center

the aim of this study was to describe the pure tone audiometries conducted in a new ENT unit
Methodoogy : This was a cross sectional and retrospective study, conducted in the Ebolowa Regional Hospital Center, from july 2022 to january 2024. The variables included was age, gender, occupation, residence anc audiometric characteristics, collected from the exploration register. Data were entered and presented using SPSS v.23.0
Results : A total of 95 exams were recruited. Patients over 60 years old were the majority (n=37, 38,9%). The media nage was 52 years (IQR 30-67), with extremes of 6 and 100 years. The sex ratio was 1,26. The city of Ebolowa was the residence of 54,7% patients.
They were mostly salariedemployees (28,4%). The main indications were unilateral hearing loss (28,4%) and bilateral hearing loss (23,2%). Hearing loss was found in 74 patients (77,9%). Sensorineural hearing loss was the most common type (n=29 ; 30,6%),
mainly of moderate severity (n=22 ; 23,2%). The left ear was most affected (n=40).
Conclusion : Audiometry mainly concerns elderly people. Hearing loss is the main indication, and moderate sensorineural hearing loss is the main indication, and moderate sensorineural hearing los sis the main indication, and moderate sensorineural hearing loss is the most represented type.
