The onset of uterine fibroids is described as occurring in adulthood in genitally active women. The appearance of this pathology in an adolescent girl is as yet unprecedented. The authors report the case of a 15-year-old girl. The patient presented with suprapubic
swelling associated with dizziness and asthenia. Palpation revealed a mobile, rounded mass in the shape of a 22-week-old pregnancy. Gentle rectal examination revealed a firm, rounded mass. Her anaemia was 5.9 g/dl. Pelvic computed tomography showed a large solid mass with a necrotic centre measuring 124 x 110 x 132 mm and extending into the uterus. She was admitted to hospital with transfusion of red blood cells, then underwent laparotomy and lumpectomy. Histological analysis was in favour of an
encapsulated myomatous nodule, measuring 15cm in diameter and weighing 700g, with no sign of malignancy. The post-operative course was featureless. Uterine fibroids can occur in adolescents as well as adults and are responsible for the same complications.
