Abstract

Cerebral malformations are common and can be a major cause of physical disability and mortality, particularly in children and newborns. Lissencephaly is a serious malformation of the cerebral cortex, defined by a total or partial absence of convolutions on the surface of the brain. It is a rare and disabling condition. Unknown in developing countries, it is difficult and costly to treat. We report here the case of a newborn male in whom MRI revealed a polymalformative cerebral syndrome. The main lesion described was lissencephaly.
