Etude de la mortalité périnatale chez le rat gravide de souche Wistar exposé aux extraits de Sida acuta Burm.f. et Ageratum conyzoïdes L

Résumé

Introduction: As the results of animal model experiments are a good indicator of potential consequences in humans, the present study set out to investigate perinatal mortality in pregnant rats exposed to extracts of Sida acuta Burm.f. and Ageratum conyzoïdes L.

Methods: An experimental study was carried out on pregnant female rats exposed on the 19th day of gestation. The negative and positive control batches received distilled water and misoprostol (1.14µg/100g body weight), respectively. The test batches received plant extracts at a dose of 2500 mg/kg body weight. Perinatal mortality was determined based on the number of pups that died 72 hours after delivery.

Results: The percentage of dead pups 72 h after birth was 100% in the batch of female rats exposed to Sida acuta Burm.f. extract and 2.77% in the batch exposed to Ageratum conyzoides L. The batches of animals given distilled water and misoprostol did not record any pup deaths 72 h after parturition. Sida acuta Burm.f. extract was also lethal to all pregnant rats administered.

Conclusion: High perinatal mortality rates were observed in batches exposed to extracts of Ageratum conyzoides L and Sida acuta Burm.f. This latter extract was lethal to all exposed pups and females.
