Evaluation of the skills of students on the reporting of adverse drug reactions

Introduction: The reporting of adverse drug reactions is a fundamental health monitoring system for monitoring the safety of medicines. It depends on the active participation and competence of health professionals. The purpose of the study was to
assess students' skills in reporting adverse events.
Methodology: A CAP study was conducted over a period of 2 months at the FMSB of the UYI. The data collected were analyzed with SPSS version 25.0. A p-value of less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant.
Results: One hundred and thirty-four students have been recruited. The mean age was 25.31±1.83 years, the sex ratio was 0.86. For overall reporting skills, 49.3% of students had an insufficient level, 38.4% had a low level and 11.9% had an acceptable level. Regarding knowledge, 62.7% were acceptable. For their attitudes toward notification, 70.1% were approximate and only 9% were accurate. Most students had a good perception of the importance of notification. Practices were poor among 86.5% of students. The unavailability of the notification forms, the lack of control of the procedure, the lack of time and motivation were mentioned as the main reasons for the lack of notification.
Conclusion: The majority of students had an insufficient level of proficiency in reporting adverse drug reactions.
