Epidemiological and anatomopathological profile of Burkitt lymphoma: about 34 cases observed in Yaoundé

Background: The aim of this study was to establish the epidemiological and histological profile of Burkitt lymphoma at the Pasteur center in Yaoundé.
Methods: This is a retrospective and cross-sectional study, spread over 5 years, from January 2017 to December 2021. It took place in the anatomy and pathology laboratory of the Center Pasteur du Cameroon. Our study took place in two phases: the first phase consisted of finding the paraffin blocks of patients who presented with Burkitt's lymphoma in the period chosen to make the slides
with a view to carrying out a proofreading, then filling out the technical sheets beforehand. designed. The second phase consisted of analyzing the data collected using Microsoft Excel 2007, epi info 3.5.3 software.
Results: we collected 34 patients out of 426. The frequency of Burkitt's lymphoma was 8%. The average age was 14 years with extremes of 2 and 44 years. The greatest number of patients were in the range between 10 and 12 years. There were 20 boys and 16 girls, giving a sex ratio of 1.42. On immunohistochemistry, the 34 cases were positive for anti-CD10, anti-CD20 antibodies and negative for anti-CD3.immunohistochemistry, the 34 cases were positive for anti-CD10, anti-CD20 antibodies and negative for anti-CD3.
Conclusion: Burkitt's lymphoma in Cameroon is a tumor of children with an average age of 14 years, the predominant age range was between 10 and 12 years, preferentially affecting male subjects.
